Once you’ve finalised your meal plan, it’s time to put it into action and maintain it.
Sticking to the plan can be one of the hardest parts in the journey, no matter your goal, so here’s some top tips for staying on track…
Stay motivated and remind yourself why you’re doing it.
Fitness and eating well can be hard. Your motivation levels can peak and drop extremely quickly, so make your goal the priority and remember why you started in the first place.
Review your plan weekly.
Once or twice a week, take time to reflect on your plan and whether you’ve had success or strayed. Reviewing your plan can help you make tweaks and adjustments as needed to move towards your goal.
Don’t lie to yourself about what you’re eating.
It’s easy to convince yourself that you’ve not eaten an extra few biscuits with your cup of tea, but try and be honest with yourself. Just because nobody saw you do it, doesn’t mean it didn’t happen!
Take pictures of your meals.
A great way of keeping yourself accountable, document each meal by taking a picture of it. Create a folder on your phone of your meals and check back at your weekly review to identify what you could improve on. For example, more protein or vegetables on your plate, or a smaller portion size.
Have someone else to keep you accountable.
Whether it’s your PT, partner, friend or even a work colleague, tracking your diet with another person will help keep you motivated and accountable.
It’s great having a plan that looks fantastic on paper, but if you can’t follow it, it won’t get you the results you want. Whether it’s reviewing your plan weekly, keeping a food diary or having someone to keep you accountable, try and factor in the tips above and make your goal the priority.
